कृविपरिचयः :- अयं श्लोकः महाकवि भर्तृहरि विरचित भर्तृहरि सुभाषितानि इति पाठात् संगृहीतः ।
కవిపరిచయము:- ఈ శ్లోకము మహాకవి భర్తృహరి రచించిన భర్తృహరి సుభాషితాని అనే పాఠమునుండి తీసుకొనబడినది.
Introduction :- This poem is taken from the lesson Bharthruhari Subhashithani written by the great poet Bharthruhari.
1. अज्ञः सुखमाराध्यः सुखतरमाराध्यते विशेषज्ञः ।
ज्ञानलव दुर्विदग्धं ब्रह्मापि नरं न रञ्जयति ।।
భావము :- తెలియని వానికి సుఖముగా చెప్పవచ్చును. తెలిసిన వానికి మిక్కిలి సుఖముగా చెప్పవచ్చును. కాని కొంత తెలిసి కొంత తెలియని మూర్ఖునికి బ్రహ్మకూడా చెప్పలేడు.
Summary:- An ignorant person can be pleased easily, a wise man can be pleased more easily. But, even the creator cannot satisfy a man who is proud with a bit of knowledge.
2. आरम्भगुर्वी क्षयिणी क्रमेण लघ्वी पुरा वृद्धिमुपेति पश्चात् । दिनस्य पूर्वार्ध परार्ध भिन्ना छायेव मैत्री खलसञ्जनानाम् ।।
భావము:-దుర్మార్గుల స్నేహం పగటి పూర్వార్థంలో నీడ వంటిది. ప్రారంభంలో పెద్దగా ఉంటుంది, క్రమంగా క్షీణిస్తుంది. సజ్జనుల స్నేహం పగటి ఉత్తరార్థంలో నీడ వంటిది. ప్రారంభంలో చిన్నగా ఉంటుంది, క్రమంగా పెద్దదవుతుంది.
Summary:-Friendship with wicked people is like morning shadow, it appears big and gradually decreases. Whereas friendship with good people is like evening shadow, it appears small and gradually increases.
3. परिवर्तिनि संसारे मृतः को वा न जायते ।
स जातो येन जातेन याति वंशः समुन्नतिम् ।।
భావము:- చావు పుట్టుకల మధ్య తిరుగుతున్న ఈ సంసార చక్రమునందు ఎవడు పుట్టుటలేదు ? ఎవడు మరణించుట లేదు ? ఎవని పుట్టుక వలన వంశము ఉన్నతిని పొందునో, వాని పుట్టుకయే గుర్తింపబడుతున్నది.
Summary:-In this cyclic rotation of the world between birth and death who is not taking rebirth after death. It is considered that by whose birth his family gets name and fame is real born.
4. कुसुमस्तबकस्येव द्वयी वृत्तिर्मनस्विनः ।
मूर्ध्नि वा सर्वलोकस्य शीर्यते वन एव वा ।।
భావము:-స్వాభిమానము కలవాడు, పుష్పగుచ్ఛము వలె అందరి చేత తలపై ఉండి గౌరవించబడుటయో, లేక అడవి యందు నశించుటయో అను రెండు మార్గములు కలిగి ఉండును.
Summary:-High minded people have two ways of living style just like a bunch of flowers either they are placed on the head or wither away in the forest.
5. सिंहः शिशुरपि निपतति मदमलिन कपोल भित्तिषु गजेषु । प्रकृतिरियं सत्त्ववतां न खलु वयस्तेजसो हेतुः ।।
భావము:-సింహము పిల్ల అయినను, మద ధారలచే నల్లబడిన చెక్కిళ్ళు గల ఏనుగును చూచి దానిపై దూకుటకు ప్రయత్నించును. బలవంతులకు అదే సహజలక్షణము. వారికి వయసుతో పనిలేదు.
Summary:-A lion though young, attacks an elephant whose temples are wet with rut(an arrogant elephant). This is the nature of the courageous, age is not criteria for the brave.
6. दानं भोगो नाशस्तिस्रो गतयो भवन्ति वित्तस्य ।
यो न ददाति न भंक्ते तस्य तृतीया गतिर्भवति ।।
భావము:-దానము చేయుట, అనుభవించుట, నాశనము చెందుట అని ధనమునకు భూమిపై మూడు మార్గములు కలవు. ఒకరికి దానము చేయక, తను అనుభవించక ఉండునో ఆ ధనము నాశనము పొందును.
Summary:-Charity, enjoyment and destruction are the three ways of money. If a person neither gives nor enjoys it will result in the last course(destruction).
7. दुर्जनः परिहर्तव्यो विद्ययाऽलंकृतोऽपि सन् ।
मणिनालंकृतः सर्पः किमसौ न भयङ्करः ।।
భావము:-తలపై మణిచే ప్రకాశించుచున్నను సర్పము(పాము) భయంకరమైనదే కదా. అట్లే దుర్జనుడు విద్యావంతుడైనను విడువదగినవాడు.
Summary:-A wicked man should be avoided even though he is adorned with knowledge. Is not a serpant dangerous although adorned with a jewel.
8. संपत्सु महतां चित्तं भवत्युत्पल कोमलम् ।
आपत्सु च महाशैल शिला संघात कर्कशम् ॥
భావము:-మహాత్ముల యొక్క మనస్సు సంపదలయందు తామరపువ్వు వలె మృదువు గాను ఆపదలయందు పెద్దకొండపై గల బండరాయి వలె కఠినముగా ఉండును.
Summary:-In prosperity the mind of great people becomes tender like a lotus, while in difficulties it becomes as hard as solid rock.
9. श्रोत्रं श्रुतेनैव न कुण्डलेन दानेन पाणिर्न तु कङ्कणेन । विभाति कायः करुणापराणां परोपकारैर्न तु चन्दनेन ।।
భావము:-కరుణామయుల యొక్క చెవులు వేదమంత్రములను(మంచిమాటలను) వినుట వలన ప్రకాశించును కాని కుండలములచే కాదు. చేతులు దానము చేయుటచే ప్రకాశించును కాని కంకణములచే కాదు. కరుణాపరుల శరీరము పరులకు ఉపకారము చేయుటవలన ప్రకాశించును గాని చందనము పూసుకొనుట వలన కాదు.
Summary:-The ear is shines by listening to vedas but not by ear rings. The hand shines by charity not by bracelet. The body of benevolent shines by kindness towards others and not by sandalpaste.
10. छिन्नोऽपि रोहति तरुः क्षीणोप्युपचीयते पुनश्चन्द्रः ।
इति विमृशन्तः सन्तः संतप्यन्ते न विप्लुता लोके ।।
భావము :- నరకబడిన చెట్టు తిరిగి మొలుచునట్లు, క్షీణించిన చంద్రుడు తిరిగి వృద్ధిపొందునట్లు సజ్జనుడు దు:ఖము కలిగినప్పుడు సంతాపము చెందక ధృఢచిత్తుడై ఉండును.
Summary:-A tree though cutdown it grows again. Though moon decreases again increases. Knowing this great people do not grieve in times of misfortune.
